Essays by George Balanchine and George Platt Lynes

In 1934 when George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein formed their New York City Ballet, they invited George Platt Lynes to photograph and document the company's productions and principal dancers. Until his death twenty-one years later George Platt Lynes enthusiastically compiled one of the most beautiful photographic documents of ballet in America. This volume captures the richly imaginative American ballet with large format gravure reproductions on fine paper. The photographs selected for this volume are the most beautiful to be found in Lynes' surviving photographic archive.
